Medicare supplement plans can work along with original Medicare that is Medicare A and Medicare B. To qualify for the medicare supplements plan then first you have to enroll yourself in the original medicare plan. If you are a USA citizen till the last 5 years then you are eligible to enroll in the plan. The conditions are mentioned below

  • Age 65 or above
  • If you have end stage renal disease or permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or transplant. 
  • If you have Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS).
  • If you are eligible for disability benefits from the Social Security Administration or the Railroad Retirement Board.

If you are working 10 years or more and pay all the medicare taxes then you are automatically enrolled into the plan.

If your age is 65 or more then you are perfect for the Medicare supplement plan. If you have ESRD or ALS diseases then you are eligible for the plan before your age 65.

Some insurance companies sell their Medicare policy under age 65 under high cost. This insurance company is approved by the original Medicare. Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period

If you are eligible for the plan then you can enroll yourself during the Medicare supplement open enrollment period. If you are 65 and have an enrollment of medicare part B then you are eligible for the  plan. This period starts the first day of your birth month of 65 and lasts for 6 month. In this period you can enroll your Medicare supplement plan checking all the legal documents of the company. Make sure that your plan doesn’t charge because of your physical condition. During this period underwriting is not used. If you do not enroll yourself for the plan then you would face the problem of health problems and pre-existing conditions. 

If you once have a Medicare supplements plan then you would pay all your monthly premium as well as your medicare plan B coverage. 

There are some conditions where you can pay more as a premium

That is

  • If You want Medicare but you’re under 65. 
  • If You are 65 but not enrolled in Medicare Part B
  • You have a health problem but your Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period ends.
